Living in Hovingham

Situated 15 miles from York and 8 miles from Malton ,Hovingham is a small historic picturesque village. First mentioned in the doomsday book and recently voted as one of the best place in Britain to live by The Sunday Times, this beautiful village of stone and natural clay pantile houses and cottages is an excellent place to live, work, grow up and enjoy the attractions of North Yorkshire.

Hovingham Hall adds to the atmosphere of the village, as do the greens and different footpaths that run through its centre, linking the surrounding countryside. The village benefits from various shops including a general store, which will order your newspapers, a delicatessen and a Bakery. The Spa tearoom next to the stream plays an important part of village life. Each month the village host a thriving Farmers Market and nearby are two renowned farm shops.

Residents enjoy many community activities for sport, play and leisure, including an all-weather tennis court, bowling green, cricket club, children’s playground, footpaths and bridleways.

A recent Ofsted report for Hovingham Primary School described it as being ‘at the hub of its community with a well-planned curriculum that provides good opportunities for pupils’. Ryedale School was recently granted Leading Edge status by the Government and a High Performance Specialist Status in Science (with Mathematics). The area is also served by a number of independent schools including St Martins Preparatory School and Ampleforth College.

There are direct rail links to London Kings Cross from both Malton and York stations.
